an old one , a pair of them in a transit van , would approach you and ask you if you want a Flat screen tv , which they would have a good one , on show , but the one they would give you is filled with bricks and the black screen is black painted cardboard....

i always remember that being asked when i went over to market on the air field the name escapes me.

i always make sure both my car garages are closed , and if I'm working on my car i listen out for the rag and bone lot , there not just out to look for scrap. they scope for stuff to nick aswell.

Same here, the rattle of a diesel engine always makes me look. I had one flat bed Transit coming back daily for a couple of weeks checking if I was around during the day. Quite obvious that it was me they were watching as they would turn round in the road opposite instead of continuing to the end looking for "scrap" as they normally would.

i like what that farmer did who had enough of the travellers who kept on robbing him....... he god damn killed one of them.

its funny in the USA if someone breaks into your house you are allowed to use what force is necessary as far as im aware.

over here if they break in and they break a nail in your house you could be done

The law was changed in ireland a year or two back to allow "reasonable defence" of your home and family, there have been several shootings of burgulars without the shooters winding up in court. The problem i would have is that you would be a marked man for the rest of your days, you'd never know when the relations of the burgulars would catch up with you.

Back on topic, i suppose the "tarmacadam your driveway for a hundred notes" scam is still going on ? A lad i worked with arrived home one night to find his concrete drive tarred and his wife beaming on the doorstep at the "bargain" she'd managed to get from some passing pikeys. He had to spend the weekend scraping it back up and pay for a skip to take it away, not good for marital bliss.

there was a program a couple of months back,undercover reporters followed the pikeys to Russia.

also followed more of them to Italy,France and Spain selling Chinese utter rubbish generators with a honda sticker on them

Another forum I visit actively supports the 'race' thing (Gypsy is NOT a race) and people have been banned for anti-Pikey comments.
On that basis, anyone who mentions 'Chavs' should be chucked off as well.

Over here in the USA it happens also. FIL had a traveler stop and askto paint barn. FIL says roof only. FIL buys paint so He knows its good. The gyps take a long wand and spray the roof from a ladder on the edge of the roof. Done in an hour or 2 which PO'es the FIL. Then He finds out they cut the paint with paraffin and kept most of it.

I've had 4 dealings with gypsy/traveller/romany types whatever your preferred term of phrase is, 3 of which were bad and of those 3, 1 of which could have been fatal if luck hadn't been on our side.

I prefer to keep as far away from them as is physically possible, I can sense them from miles away now and the sight or the sense that a site is nearby fills me with dread.

I know there will be a percentage of them that are sound but I have my own view of the remainder.

They are not to be crossed under any circumstances, and anyone killing one of them regardless of the circumstances, as said above is a marked man, the family ties, honour and grudges that run through their communities is so strong that revenge will be sought.

It must be a tough life the way the majority live and they do receive one hell of a lot of prejudice (which is well earned in some cases), I just feel bad for the people who want to but have no way out of that lifestyle.

The wife of a cousin of mine was driving home through the industrial estate near us one night, there was an extended family of pikeys who had been evicted from their housing for causing murder and mayhem camping near some of the multinational businesses (give us money and we'll move scam), anyway as she drove past she heard bangs. The pikeys were having a row among themselves and one crowd was up the road firing sawn off shotguns at the crowd down the road and they in turn were firing back, it was like dodge city.
she called the police and told them what was going on but they never went near them.

The Police are too frightened to go anywhere near their sites.

A few years ago a load turned up and pitched on the local sports field near my cousin on the Notts / Leics border. Apart from completely destroying the football and cricket pitches and totally writing off the pavilion and changing rooms the local crime rate went through the roof. - Anyway, I digress.

My cousin is a self employed tree surgeon - yes, he wasn't best pleased as he lost loads of jobs - and runs a Transit tipper with cage sides for moving all the light brash. As he was driving through the village where these lovely caravan dwellers were pitched on his way to a job via the local shop to get some snap he realised that he was being followed by a big jap crew cab pick. Pulls up at the shop, goes inside puts his snap in the cab and goes to the back of the truck to sort something in the back.

He then notices the pickup has parked up across the road and one of the occupants is making a bee line for him.

The conversation went something like this:

How much do ye want for the Transit?

It's not for sale

Awe go on - how much. I'll give ye a fair price.

Look mate, it's not for sale.

Come on - everything has a price. What will ye take for it.

Look - What part of F##k Off don't you understand?

There's no need to talk to me like that.

And off the guy walks - back to his big crew cab pick up. My cousin continues sorting out the back of his truck only to then realise that the fella was walking back over - accompanied by two gorillas.

And the conversation resume - by this time my cousin has hold of a good size pry bar in the back of his truck but out of sight of said gentlemen.

I think ye is being an little unfair - I've told ye we will give you a fair price for the Transit.

Look pal - I've told you - it's not for sale - now just p##s off the lot of you and let me get on.

My cousin is now convinced that his last comment is going to really really hurt, but he notices one of the gorillas setting himself up to lean himself against the passenger A pillar of his Transit.

So without batting an eye he says to him - I wouldn't lean against my truck if I were you pal.

And what is ye going to do about it?

Now, my cousin tells me he has never seen a guy move so fast in all his life as Emma, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, launched herself from the passenger footwell at the door window.

It must have been the sight of a one eyed, slavering, almost rabidly barking Staffy, but they all turned tail and left.

Daft thing is the worst injury she could have given you was a good gumming - she had no teeth.

Moral of this story is pikies are scared sh##less of Staffy's

Another scam as i mentioned in an earlier thread is the "If you want us gone pay us to go" scam, this scam was used by another band of lowlifes in ireland during the boom years, namely property developers. If they wanted to build on a particular piece of land and the locals objected to planning permission , then the pikeys would move in and make a right mess of the place. The developer would seek to get permission again and the locals would give in.
A similar thing would be for them to simply move in to a farmers field and if he wanted them out , demand so much per caravan to clear off, i have heard it was as much as 1,000 euros at one time.
It is in all fairness hard for a pikey to go straight and live right as a lot of bullying goes on in their world as shown in scamps thread above, there was a pikey girl over here who wanted to train as a nurse, she did so at trinity college (our equivilant of oxford or cambridge) and done really well , hated the carry on of her "community" and denounced it. She reckoned it was her own crowd that made life hard for her when she rejected the old lifestyle of caravans and thieveing.

I heard today that a Range Rover was pinched by a posse of p****s over at Stokesley last weekend, thrashed around until they hit and killed someone then legged it.
Several arrests, various people admitted to being in the car but nobody knew who was driving . No evidence, they all walked.

Isn't allowing yourself to be carried in a stolen vehicle also an offence?

Mate was a Police Sergeant until retirement. His "patch" was a rural area of the Staffordshire Moorlands. He told me there was once a complaint by travellers about the farmer who's land they had decided to take over. Seems the farmer got other farmers together and decided it was time to spray pig manure on the land so drove up and down the travellers camp spraying the stuff everywhere. Travellers were told by Police that he was perfectly entitled to do that and wasn't breaking the law. Needless to say no more episodes of travellers in that area again.
