My m8's father has a business cleaning the beer lines in pubs using these powerful magnets. Without them you need to be cleaning the lines every week but with these fitted they need to be clened every three weeks.

Something to do with polarizing the yeast and it doesn't stick to the inside of the line. Recons he's got the frantise for these specfic magnets in britain.

Bass breweries took him to court and he won the case. Now cleans lines for them as well.

This magnetic fuel saver stuff is utter, utter nonsense. Fuel is made of hydrocarbons (carbon and hydrogen molecule chains) which are not magnetic and therefore cannot possibly be affected in any way by a magnet, not even by a "rare earth" magnet.

Even if you could "line the molecules up" this would have no effect because the fuel is mixed with air by the carb or injector so all these nicely lined up molecules will be mixed up again in random directions. Even if you could get lined up fuel molecules into your cylinder I cannot see any way that this would lead to more efficient combustion. The fuel vapour/droplet/mist/air mix is ignited by the spark plug (glow plug in a diesel) and the flame front travels outwards from that point. The oxygen molecules that react with the hydrocarbons in the fuel dont care which way the molecule is oriented. Brownian motion ensures they are randomly oriented.

Please, dont buy these things, total waste of money.

Ive heard acetone added to your fuel (both petrol and diesel) in minute quantities is enough to help lower the surface tension of the molecules. meaning the fuel vapourises easier and giving a more complete burn. dont know how well or if it even works but someone on an Australian car forum quoted gains of upto 45% for a diesel. Again, dunno if it works, only passing the info along

I thought acetone attacked the rubber in use on automotive systems, being from a different part of the crack than petrol. I fired one of my chainsaws up with some down the carb one day, and now im waiting for new crankcase seals to arrive...

Theres so much of this going on at the moment, Im into describing to someone elsewhere how this cannot work, due to conservation of energy laws. Note theyre not claiming magnetic suspension of the axle to reduce drag, but some kind of flywheel effect, although "maddog" cannot say how muhc as convieniently he hasnt actually tested one, despite investing huge amounts in a initial prototype and first batch :-

Hmm magnetic flywheel huh...

As you say, energy in = energy out.
Main (probably all) energy loss is due to friction.
If you don't reduce the friction you will not gain much.

well the magnetic fuel savers are advertised as being tested by the government road labs (or something) and proven to work. It's illegal to advertise something like that if it isn't true.

So if it isn't true, why are they still allowed to advertise them?

i really dont know to be honest. I dont think it did any damage to his fuel system as he ran it for quite a while. and whe i say a small amount of acetone to fuel it really is a small amount. something like 0.75ml per 10/L of fuel (I THINK) i'll have to dig up the thread from the site.

Thanks for the link MrFluffy. The Mythbusters experiment was on petrol, which I have not personally tried but our trials were on gas burners and the results did show to be positive. As mentioned in my earlier post, the flame from a disposable lighter is noticeably hotter when subjected to the magnet - please don't take my word for this - try it yourselves.

I'm not trying to sell these things, just sharing the results I have witnessed. I cannot explain the apparent 'health benefits' either, but my elderly Weimaraner had a new lease of life when we bought her a Bioflow collar and others on here have had the same experience with their pets.

Proven to work and do what? proven not to damage the vehicle, or proven to increase the mpg obtained from petrol without requiring any changing to the fuelling to compensate for them?

There were 6 that slightly improved (5%) the mileage, all of which turned out to be in the aerodynamic aids class (kamel spoilers for eg). THe magnetic devices in total scored a result of 0.

Steve, I have no doubt you are reporting the study, I have no experience in gas turbones to make informed comment, except to say I have no idea how a magnet aligns the ions in a non magnetic medium such as fuel gas. I remain skeptical although I will try your experiment when I am near a device capable of measuring the flame temp and flow rates (maybe the magnet pulls the valve components up a little allowing a touch more flow?)...

Yes, I've seen the mythbusters test all these devices and they correctly found that none work- its simply not possible scientifically either- as Scotty said "you cannot change the laws of physics" ;-)
There is nothing in chemistry or physics that connects magnets and hydrocarbons.
Mythbusters is a very sound program scientifically.


I believe some anecdotal claims of 10-15% can easily be explained by the driver consciously driving for economy and getting this result that way- its the driver doing it, not the magnets.

Really, to save fuel, just make sure your vehicle is well maintained, tyre pressures correct, dont carry unnecessary weight and use observational anticipation- be gentle on the accelerator and the brakes. You can save more than 10-15% just by doing some of those things, and by driving at less busy times. Keep to the speed limit and accellerate smoothly. Acetone claims also are rubbish, as said above its going to attack any rubber seals over time and cause other problems.

Peter51,didn't ever have much faith in the magnets but did try an ecotek valve a while back.not fitted to my present car.....yet.. at least... .look here ...http://www.fuelsaving.info/ecotek.htm...........good info on most other claimed fuel saving devices as well......did give a perceived better response but it was only perceived.........if u would like to test it i would be happy to loan it to you if you report back here ............and i get it back when u decide it doesn't work or buy one for yourself!

I had an ecotec valve fitted to my mk3 golf gti, couldn't comment on economy but my mate said it was noticeably more responsive than his mk3 gti.

I'd imagine that's 'up to' 5-20%, which of course includes 0%. A bit like all these insurance ads on the telly that can save you up to £200. They're called weasel words.
