more motor qs sorry

one of lads brought a motor back today from a job, says it works as it was running before they took conveyor out.
as found out drill press motor will only run one way.
hoping to use it on my lathe as say 220/240 on it.
hoping it will run both ways from my dewhirst type switch.
pics are of how it is wired and plate.
it is wire
u1 grey
v1 brown
n1 black
and earth to motor housing.

will it work?

Don't know about using it on a single phase supply (I only saw on here the other day you could run a 3 ph motor on a single ph supply with a capacitor) but it would work on a vfd ok.

Nice little 1Hp motor, wont run if you just plug it into 240 house electric.---its a 3 phase motor I think. I know it says 220/240, but thats not single phase house stuff,

It is a nice motor but 3 phase 224 / 440 volt
You would need a inverter
It would be possible to run it with a cap but not ideal

Looks like 3 phase to me too - there are Star/Delta markings next to the left hand rivet.

Reading the bit below, it's 220-240v Delta or 380-415v Star.

An inverter would give you speed control and reversing without having to use the 3-way switch.

Also if taking pics of data badges and stuff, even on a phone, move away a bit and zoom in, makes it easier to get it all in focus

As @brightspark says 3~ means 3 phase

Are inverters expensive?
Someone at club paid over 500 for ready set up motor and inverter.
Or should I try and get motor from somewhere.
Would like to get lathe running.

Also plenty of inverter kits on ebay

Just remember that a 3ph motor run on "pseudo" 3ph, or a 1ph motor will have lower starting torque than a "real" 3ph motor.

I have lots of 3 phase machinery running of a Chinese 4hp VFD that cost under £100 from eBay.

Its a 3phase wired in Star. the brass joiners go accress the trhee pairs in Delta. The coils are wired diagonally. a 1KW VFD will run that.

edit:

it looks like the coils are wired in parallel from the colours of the wires, so if you want to run delta you will need to check if this is the case and move one side along one

spoke to delta earlier £180 for inverter switch to run both ways and speed controller.
