Over the last few years, I seem to be encountering more dental problems than I used to. Most dentists in this region went private in the late 1980’s, so I’ve four decades of private dentistry behind me. But as dentists seem to retire early, I have had 3 different dentists in the last ~12 years, and I suspect that has been a bad thing.
The latest problem started when my dentist found a “small cavity” in a tooth right at the back; he didn’t spot it on the X-rays, or by inspection, but only found it after I said I was getting a little tooth ache.
Long story short; he drills in and finds it’s not small, it is huge and the root is so bad it needs to be removed. But he tells me that the root is close so some important nerve and he does not want to do that. Instead he has referred me to the dental centre at our local major hospital, but has warned me that they may decline to do it.
The one thing he did do for me, was to increase my monthly fee!
