Hi Gaz..the bullwhip cable and adaptor looks perfect..but where do I get one They are on Ebay/Amazon USA but either they won't post or the postage is way too much..surely there must be a need in the UK for people with petrol powered compressors?? Anyone know..might be worth me asking on the compressor forum??

My Honda powered unit has a mechanical unit that cuts the engine speed when the pressure is up, I fitted a centrifugal clutch so once the engine slows the drive stops until the pressure drops, works perfectly.

This is similar to the one on mine, basically you fit this to the engine and as as the plunger comes out it cuts the throttle, the throttle lever on the Honda pulls a spring which operates the throttle so it's possible to shut the throttle back even if the lever is fully open.Obviously you need to run a pipe to the valve. It makes all the difference and the engine will run all day without you having to worry about it. The plunger on mine is just pushing a tab on the throttle

I got my compressor from my brother, I think he brought back from AUS and it wasn't working, I took the pulley off the engine and fitted a centrifugal clutch like on a go kart but with a v pulley instead of a sprocket

I used a clutch like this, you would need to check crank size etc and there is a chance you may need to get a different sized belt

Yes that would work but again looks like it's USA or Canada shipping only. Must be someone selling them in the UK? I'll try a post on the compressor forum using your link..not too bothered about a clutch as I only use the compressor in short bursts anyway.

I think the one issue if you don't have the clutch is that when the revs drop you are putting quite a bit of load on an idling engine trying to pump a fully charged cylinder. With the clutch it drops to a nice quiet tickover and only comes to life once the pressure drops.

Looking at the videos gaz1 posted I think you actually need the special unloader valve on the tank to operate the solenoid.

I imported an unloader and bulwhip/throttle controller for my previous compressor. Find the right ebay seller in the US and they are not expensive. They work really well.

Really, really well... So well that it makes your compressor super desirable and then it walks

I'm sorry I got into this thread..I was quite happy before now I've just spent £40 on the bullwhip thingy from the USA - postage was way over the cost of the part but hey ho it might be worth it as HughF said I'll let the forum know if it's any good.

I got my parts from compressor-source on ebay US. Ideally you want a US seller who ships using the GSP - it's often cheaper.

you could have just built one using an air cylinder on the throttle and a length of 6mm nylon hose to connect to the throttle port.

so i have come across this pump locally, look like a big old brute? its a reasonable price and im thinking about buying it.

Ive also come across a 13hp petrol engine off a generator, also for a good price.

Is it going to be easy to get pulleys and belts to link the two? is it just two Vee belts

not that simple on the speed. u may have to run it though a countershaft to lower the speed of engine enough using 4 pulleys
