Diagbox doesn't see my original head unit when you do a global test. Never did any further investigation because it's working apart from the Bluetooth hands free microphone.
The mfd screen started losing pixels and I had to replace it with an aliexpress unit. It took 2 goes because the 1st one they sent didn't work but the 2nd is working perfectly.
There are at least 4 types of these mfd screens and variations in types so it's hard to get the correct match.

Up at 5am because I have a really really bad bug, as do rest of family apart from daughter who's back at uni before it hit.
Yes, I think this is exactly the problem. And I checked multiple logic analyser dumps and the RD4 only sends the sequence in one of them even though I followed a formal path to reset everything and cold start the test from ignition on after a period off.
I *wonder* if the canbus transciever in the RD4 is a bit poorly, I should be able to scope the ttl inputs to its legs and see if its being asked to send it every time but the IC is flaky. In which case I'll bodge wire in a can transciever board so I can dump it properly to test.
Or option b, bin it and telecode in a 15e replacement off the small ad's sites. I'll see how I feel after this bug has passed...
You have to go into a specific section just for the media stuff if its showing, then click on it on the main diagnostics screen and you can see parameters, check the vin is correct and do actuator tests like stick a message on the MTD screen to make sure its in comms.
Its PSA, they probably bought at least 4 different types because they were 0.000001 cents cheaper that month and ignore the concequences on maintenance and repair.

The rd4 radio was disabled in the vehicle config inside the delivery section of diagbox, which when enabled let the rd4 display tuning/volume information on the main MFD.
However the menu button still did not trigger the system menus, then I went back in with diagbox and into repair of the MFD itself and the mfd was configured to not have menus.
Once I did that, I found some setting in peugeot planet set to not allow the MFD to communicate with the rd4 over canbus.
Once that was enabled, bingo, the menu popped straight away and for the first time since she got the car, it has the right time and date!
Now I'm going to sniff the menu and key presses and tuning/volume/input data etc sent from the RD4 with the logic analyser and then I can write some code to display/control them from the android head unit exactly as if it has a oem radio fitted.
