I had a call out, to that place yesterday.

Wasy fix, I asked about racks and pumps.
I was told they do New parts or Ford approved parts. Ok you may have to wait 24 hours to get it, but looking at the prices they seamed to be resoinable.
Over a free coffee I asked about them.
Turns out that the place ford gets the parts for a new car also repairs etc returned units. Hence why they have a hefty surcharge on top.

Years ago, I needed some parts for my 205, brushes and arms.
It was cheeper to go to the main dealer than a car spare place.

Always worth a bit of time to ask.

I'm getting different answers from main dealers (or very expensive stealer, my local Ford main).

This time of year it's still 0 c outside so can't do the work myself and I need to know that it's done right, Suffolk on fast roads with a 2t trailer, I NEED to know nothing will go wrong (in a previous life I was doing crash recovery in London and saw some nasty accidents).

The big thing you get from going for a genuine part, whether that be new or exchange, is you know it's built/remanufactured to the manufacturer's standard with a good warranty.

A lot of aftermarket 'reconditioned' parts are of dubious quality.
Some have little more than a visual inspection, seals changed, and a coat of paint.
And some I've had to fit, I'm sure are fresh out a scrap yard with just a coat of paint.
But there are some that are done to a similar standard to an original part.

Personally I wouldn't get too hung up on fitting a genuine part, but I'd certainly not want to fit the cheapest option.

For the sake of 1/2 hrs work and a couple of litres of fluid I would try flushing the system out . Had similar problems in the past and used a 50/50 mix of paraffin and ATF before using neat ATF with success

Well, I was wrong, it's the pump not the rack.
So it's a bit cheaper to get fixed.
I'll put what I've saved towards the replacement clutch, if I don't have to tow the trailer to much, I should get it through this year. Normaly towed with the motorhome, but this time of year it's SORN'd - even has to go for a pre booked MOT as I don't tax it till May.
