Thanks Norm butrest of head seams ok. Just been looking round at the prices for the belt kits and gaskets ect On the few items I have seen prices for its all adding up. Now I know why I like having a company car....
Any recomendations for gasket and belt brands (avoid/ good uns?)

Mike, is it worth just giving the tdc clearance a check in regards to the piston deck heights in the block to rule out bent con-rod/s? Would be a shame to reassemble to find you gain a miss-fire!

have you checked the valve guides for being cracked due to the bent valve

you cant tell if any other valves are bent just by looking at them
turn head on it's side fill the port's with diesel any leakage is either valve not sealing or bent
best way to check is remove them and roll the stem on a known flat surface or put them in a drill chuck and spin them slowly drill in a vice screw driver against valve head or if you are posh a dial gauge
cambelt kits use gates gaskets Payne also check the ford prices some times they are cheaper than facters not often though

also check the head around where the cam followers drop in...done quite a few of these which had cracked the shoulders due to the followers getting a smack from the valve stem,and the follower goes off `cocked`

Few more things to check then
Still can't understand why there is no mark on the piston where the valve bent.
Time to dust off the dti.
All the cam followers did seam to operate and return when manually turning the camshaft when head was still on block (as belt was broken it was possible to turn just cam).
will check for valve sealing.

What's the parts?

Anyone know these go? Putting things back togeather and can't figure where these came from. I had them baged up with the screws for the cam cover so from somewhere round there maybe??
Spanner is 13mm for size comparison

Think those are the bits that the cam cover bolts down to. Fitted to the bearing blocks. Been a while since I did mine.

Cheers KF that makes sense (hence why I had them in the bag for the cam cover screws. So now realise they go on the bearing blocks nut/studes that I have already screw down.....Dooh

An update. Well it's done ...phew. I now know I hate torx head screws/bolts. So bl00dy difficult to get at. and how many plugs + difficult to get to hose clips inparticular the turbo oil return hose clips.

Also a big (not) cheer for Haynes manuals how thoes guys manage to work in that coal mine, taking the cars apart and giving such a wonderful gallay of photos in said mine
