Modular Garage Storage systems

Has any one got or use one of these modular garage units, if so are they ok and worth the money, looking at a 4-5m unit for new build workshop. Any recomendations as to a make Sealey, Draper and many others do them any preferred brands?

seems like a lot o money......think I'd find an old kitchen set o units thats being updated.....
I just missed a full med sized kitch set o units for 25 euro's......grrrrr.

Give me a week and I’ll tell you. Boy I know has one inbound at the moment it seems.

He’s bought it for a commercial workshop. I am not convinced. We will see.

What I don't like about these is they are 470 deep not 600 makes them far too shallow

I know a not very technical person who has those. All I will say is look at the gauge of the steel and make up your own mind.

I'd have a look at the Sealey Superline Pro range... it's a decent quality for the money. The cheaper Sealey offerings are... less good.
Beta do some great modular stuff, the RRP is ruinous but usually you can get a good bit off if you ask,

If you're buying something like this you want to buy it once, and make it last... how many years? Worth spending a decent bit on.

I'd love a Beta modular setup on tick, but unfortunately I've got more pressing needs/wants than modular storage, and fancy toolboxes unfortunately don't give any ROI, no matter how happy it would make me...

I'm a serious advocate for tool storage especially being mobile.

In the workshop I love everything having a home and being to hand or in its home. Shame currently I'm mid way through a big sort out

So I was there again today and it’s arrived.

500 deep as per matts comment, and at 6’4” the overhead cupboards are a bit low for me.

For the price I was actually impressed. It’s not heavy steel but it’s got a feel about it and a bit of structure. I was expecting it to be made out of kn0b cheese if I’m honest but I am actually quite surprised.

He’s done well stocking it and has managed to get plenty in but time will tell how the drawers cope with that. Not sure about a commercial workshop but it’s a father / son outfit and me as and when so I’m sure it’ll live longer than in a big place.

He paid £1300 which in strap on land doesn’t even get a top box so from that view I suppose it was a bargain.

I have seen a pricier version which is more modular, ie you pick what you want rather than this which is what you’re given, and I think I’d go with that if it were mine.

He is happy so that’s what counts.

He has put a led strip light under the top units which makes a massive difference

Lister make the proper setups for factory's and the like. This is the real deal. Although no idea on price

There was also a company at goodwood revial one year who did some amazing bespoke stuff but can't remember the name of them

at 4 to 5m long I'm guessing you'll be covering one fill wall or most of one?

for me the bench isn't deep enough, and there's no where for your feet when you're working at the bench

you could add a deeper top to make a deeper bench... but then have to either have the draws set back so you have foot space and the draws are hard to use, or have them forward and in the way

for me cupboards are a bit useless, they look nice but shelves are much more useful


I bought a bunch of shelves on ebay, if they hadn't come up cheap I'd have build a load with decent grade inch thick ply - ply will look nice if it's done well, if you don't care about looks I'd be very tempted by OSB too

must be able to find some decent draw units, small ones so you can have them up off the floor (for foot space)


or, go with a big tool box

they're really good - especially good for the money, stick them at the ends and have a bench between with a shelve or shelves under it


4 or 5m of draws is way too many draws for me, big stuff doesn't really work in draws

I've got two old kitchens in my shed, acquired from two different sources. They're OK, but they're not as good as I imagine these proper storage solutions are. But then, they cost me nothing so I can't complain. I've got a few cupboards that are a bit of a compromise in terms of size, because they're not designed for the job.

My problem with shelves is that because I'm working on the car in the shed, everything on the shelves gets covered in dust and it's too much of a pain to keep dragging it all off to clean it. I'm thinking of getting some plastic sheeting that I can hang from the top of the dexion to try to keep it to a minimum. I have a load of plastic storage boxes (I now only buy the ones with lids, as I found out that of course they fill up with dust) but I also have loads of stuff that either won't fit in them, or putting in a box makes it take up far too much space.

I really like that garage that Angelina has at the start of the original "Tomb Raider" film, but I'll wager it's a garage that's never seen her spend a weekend cutting off and replacing a set of rusty sills.

That's a great offer but I have managed to download this from the Sealey site, perusing as I write.
I did consider making the units myself, after all it will be a wood workshop but just like the idea of having something bespoke and shiny straight out of the box.

I had considered kitchen units, I will use these in the garage I think once my machinery is installed in the workshop, I was hoping to do one end wall in the modular units and happy to build benches and workstations along the other walls as required. Thanks all some good input and food for thought.
