Two problems I have now.
Others have mentioned my pet bugbear about badly-adjusted lamps, my final one is van headlights which, due to the design of the vans are mounted quite high up, so the beam angle etc can be spot on but they still end up dazzling you. Doesn;t seem to be a problem with trucks, only vans?
- Last visit to the opticians I asked about difficulty driving at night as I find headlights tend to dazzle. My optician said I had evidence of age-related (I'm 46) wear-and-tear on my retina (slight yellowing for one) which is causing this, and that some anti-glare glasses could help. Thus far, I've not had time/remembered (age again!) to look for any but hope they might help.
- Modern headlights i.e. those which have plastic outer covers rather than glass, are a pain in the jacksie. I've a 14-year-old Fiat Punto and have to use the Meguiars headlamp polishing kit I've got on an annoyingly regular basis to get rid of the discolouration/hazing on them. Annoying as (a) the old glass headlamps didn't need this level of maintenance and (b) having looked at the outer covers they are held in place by clips, making one thing that they should be replaceable, but they have also been sealed to the body of the headlight unit and so CAN'T be replaced This would be a great help as one could replace the (presumably) UV-degraded outer lenses with some new ones and/or replace damaged ones.
