a lot of metal on the models are imperial and only metric is available so you have to alter a lot of measurements to make up the diffrence

I was referring to the imperial ones being wrong to start with, but on your point there's a metric version of the Minnie Traction engine that is not very reliable.

I'm sure there's a similar size section for a live steam engine in the shed given to my father by his friend Jack Davies before he died. He was quite a model engineer, a quick search found one of his engines on show.
Glad l looked Jack up again, found a Faecesbook dedicated to him. I have fond memories of him from childhood.

I would venture that a good chunk of that cost will be the liability insurance as the boiler comes finished.

Yep! gone off topic in my own thread 
. Intermission over, back to the plot. I managed a couple hours with the kit today and mostly covered every surface with a thin layer of cast iron dust getting rid of theflashings off the castings uing a Dremel, still haven't found the die grinder :-(. When that was over I started to get some of the things I am going to need and horror of horrors, the fastenings are all BA (British Association) thread. 7BA is prominent and out of my collection of BA taps and dies I could find ONE 7BA tap, a dozen 6BA and half a dozen 8BA, this is just my luck.
Reamers are my next problem, everything is Imperial and I have only a few and none the size I need so I have a list and Monday will see me at my local tool shop. But I have a Saturday and Sunday between now and then, I am sure I can dig several holes for myself between then and now.

I've got a stack of smaller reamers send it to me as well.
It's nearly 50 years since I made the vertical version (10V rather than 10H) at school.
When I saw your post I wondered if the design had been 'metricated' - seems not.
IIRC 5BA and 7BA were used. Crankshaft is/was 9/32" dia and a reamer is required for its bearings.
It was supplied as a forging!
In those days the kit came with all the fasteners. 7BA hex headed set screws, studs etc.
Edgar Westbury wrote a description of the machining operations and assembly in a little booklet.
I'll see if I still have it.
