mobile welding-coded?

Hi, I'm a sheety by trade but looking into going mobile welding, question is would a asmeix coding by worthwhile paying for or is it something that isn't strictly needed? Cheers dan

I would look at the kind of work you are focusing on doing and then speak to your local test centre, they'll tell you what codes you'll need

depends entirely on were you want to focus your efforts. Never heard "sheety" being used before, I trust you meant sheetmetal worker

Yes, a sheet metal worker, sheety must be peculiar to the shipyard then I already do bits and pieces on vehicles and want to do it full time, just wondering how much asmeix would expand my horizons

I've never heard of anyone wanting vehicle welders to ASME 9. I know a guy who does chassis mods for... shall we say a well-known maker of truck chassis... and he only got the job by word of mouth, not by waving bits of paper or having some test welds NDT'ed.

Very crudely any coding will expire in a couple of years tops unless you're regularly working to it and can keep them stamped upto date. Once you go beyond basic 'codes' like BS4872 (or whatever it is now) then welding procedures become involved and things get more and more job specific. Something to worry about as and when you need 'em IMO
