Mobile Suds pump

Just a quicky for those drillists that use a gutbuster or big drill for drilling holes in plant/steel etc away from the workshop, this little gadget is proving to be very useful for keeping bigger drills cool while drilling big holes. Good for blacksmith drills , big hole saws or any cold cutting etc. Knocked up this mobile suds pump with a B&Q pump up weed killer sprayer gadget and a mag mounted coolant hose ass , hose and everything supplied fitted the mag mount.

I use this stuff, its nearly empty so will replace it unless the home grown variety is any good

Debated doing the above for the odd occasion I need coolant.
Cant warrant a full suds setup for the use my garage sees.

I am going to rig one up on the bandsaw, it will save on blades and be far less of a ballache than standing there squirting oil on it.

Did you think about re using the original spray nozzle to make a mister rather than using a constant flow of coolant?

The thing with this system is you must also arrange a drain.

A good idea if you cant recover the fluid

Initially it was only for outside/mobile drilling but I suppose with a bit of thought things like pillar drills and portable benchtop bandsaws etc could easily be sat in a tray to facilitate fluid recovery. My yard bandsaw would easily lend itself to the mod.

My mill was already on a stand with a drip tray built in. This had a welded on standpipe. I just fixed a piece of hose to this and ran it into an old oil container. Then just poured the contents back into the pump spray when it started getting low.

for coolant (dilutable) oil I'm using Q8..... when I bought it, think it was £85 for 25 liters.....
thinking of using 46 grade Hydraulic oil as a coolant "neat".....
mainly cos there no water around on the machines and the way the price of the dilutable oil is going probably just as cheap.....
anyone using Hyd oil for coolant.....
for coolant on the bench drill I just use a small washing up liquid squirty bottle....

I am changing my suds system to a mist system as it uses less suds so hopefully less mess and the air should blow the chips away, funnily enough this arrives today off fleebay all the way from china I think it was less than a fiver hopefully get it set up next week ,I will report back how well it works Ive seen a few setups on the youtube and they look good.

Have a read up on the health risks with mist systems mate.

Got the same one sat on the side in my garage. Still haven't done anything with it!

I was going to go the mist route but was seriously dissuaded by the idea of breathing in atomised coolant.
