well after a terrible summer with virtually no signal at home changed from lebara to tesco (o2) only to find still no signal...so put new sim in a old old nokia and good signal, my brothers newer nokia not so good weak and intermittant .
So can any one recomend a sim free phone that I can get google maps on , and seems to be good on getting signal ! dont want a larger size. Thanks for all and any advice.

Used Nokia for years on EE around Somerset levels signal ****% they always told me it was OK changed phone to smart job and O2 Huawi slightly better to start with has got progressively worse in the last 12 months friends say EE is the same.
You can see 2EE towers by our workshop have full signal and the boys cant make or hold onto calls, God help the emergency services when they migrate from Airwave already years late.
Manage to get to customer service to complain and they ask for post code how the **** do you know the post code if you are in a new unknown district, All sims should be roaming as we were promised in the early days it might help

Nokia are no longer made by Nokia, they're rebranded HMD global phones, which are owned by a chinese guy called Terry Gou and are now just generic chinese android smartphones with the name slapped on for marketing purposes.

I bought a XR20 rugged Nokia outright based on their old stuff being great over decades and needing a 5g capable phone, and its a very mixed bag, you can't reprogram the button choices and one of the buttons calls the emergency services when pressed, so you have it in your pocket and unless you lock it, a nudge of the button makes a emergency call. A different one calls ok google and sends audio off, but fortunately you can turn that off although you can't repurpose the google button for anything else (I think this is a google requirement rather than HMD's though)
Most annoyingly the bootloader is locked and they refuse to unlock it so I can't reflash it with something better & a update keeps disabling some privacy preferences set. The rugged design seems ok so far but the phone is not.

I have a dual sim Huawiiii and its been ok for 5 years, both sims are with 02 and on the signal strength one sim is always less than the other for some reason, I must take them out and clean the contacts as that sometimes helps

well the hand me down huwaee I was using is obviously duff/on the way out , that was dual sim ,which was usefull as old sim was used just for gumtree adverts and the like .
Can you still get sims that dont cut off after a month so you can accept incoming calls with out topping up?

I have a Sonim XP8, plus got one for my son as they bounce rather than break when dropped. Need to be unlocked if buying from the US. Battery, if newish last about a week for me before charging needed. About £60 each off ebay, £15 post plus a spot of customs duty of about a £10.

They turn up like buses - also, depends whether you look at ebay.co.uk or ebay.com - makes a big difference in what turns up. About 3 months ago, someone listed a box of 20 of them for $500.....

ive got the samsung s3 mini lasted me years and still using it

its opened up to any network

its got everything i want with it video. photos and phone and also the alarm ive had a larger battery fitted to it so it lasts much longer and gives you something to grab hold of instead of slimline

ive bought the daughter one used it for so long ( she wanted the iphone she got told to buy her own ) and she sold it and got a worse phone instead like many others out there they want ive got a really good phone look at my status. for me as long as it does what i want that will do me and ive got that with the s3 mini

How did you get roaming sim gaz normally only data sims roam we use them on PTT hand sets

There are only 3/4 networks.

Look up what virtual operators (resellers) use what network, then aquire sims for all of them to work out which network does you best (sims can normally be gained free of charge)

Of course you will need a network unlocked phone. Moto G are what I choose. I'm on a g62 at the moment and it cost me about £115 (I bought it on voda as that was the cheapest deal, got some cash back with quidco, used the free credit I got with it - it's a dual SIM, so kept my normal SIM too, and then junked the voda sim and put another in)

its not a roaming sim its just a phone unlock but i can use a swap sim unit but i prefer the bigger battery and its cheap enough to buy a second phone for say work and turn the thing off

depending on phone you can have them opened up for all networks worth the 10.00 to have it done while you wait

not all phones do this as some networks are fully locked

thhats exactly my attitude , firstly phonemust get good signal and speaker clear, secondly googlemaps . preferably good battery I miss old nokias you charged ounce a week

erm the 5210s did so did the 3210 and 3330 i dont know after that

as goes for google maps as soon as you use those its roaming and therefore uses more battery whilst the older ones didnt have this tech

i fitted a wider battery but it also needed a new back which gives you something to grab hold of when using it

on a full charge it will go through 2 days before needs fully charging playing it through plug in speakers

no phone calls, alarm going off 4 times daily it will last a week without a charge thats 5-7 days that is

but you have to be using the bigger battery the slimline battery dosnt last long about 2-3 days

Going back some years, I was very much of the impression that the receivers in Motorola phones were above average. It's also been suggested to me that some of the old "dumb" phones had better receivers than is typical of current smartphones.
