So about a year ago, this forum was helpful in getting me setup with a jasic single phase welder to weld my truck beds.
To be honest its been a great success, all of our lorries have had new floors in and the saving to ourselves (not including saving in no downtime during working day - we did the floors out of hours) has been in the 10's of thousands. We've even helped out our colleagues when they've been in a bind, and I dread to admit it -running an alloy puddle is much more satisfying than steel.
I now am quite keen to get a mobile welding rig setup so that we can extend our offering to others, where we can nip over to their yard and do the repairs.
The jasic 250p i've been using has been plenty powerful for welding the 6-8mm sheets in, however it is a big old lump - i'm looking to get a set up that is either somewhat portable with a generator in the van to plug into or to buy a welding generator (?), anyone had a alloy set up mobile?
Would be to mount in one of our Sprinters, size and weight isn't an issue as we have operator licences within our business. No current generator so would need a generator recommendation also if anyone has any suggestions? Would be ideal to have a set up thats hard mounted in a van with long torches that reach out the side door and over the side of lorry bodies? A pulsed option would still be ideal, with some of the welding required being vertical
If i was to go with a welding generator, what other considerations would there be? Do i need to purchase other bits, torches, spool etc.? What is a "suitcase"?
Appreciate the help
