MM drill sharpener ?

Hi folks, i once could sharpen drill bits dam good free hand on a bench grinder, the lads came to me to do it for them, i still can easy for big bits like 10mm and above but getting to smaller bits i have lost the knack as i havnt done it for many years, well i cheated and got one of these things

Only as they have a good read up. seems naff to only use it for shaprneing for 5-10 seconds then turn off

it is sharpening the bits but not all tat good, the leading edge is barley there and the pressure needed to get a slight cut is to much.

what am i doing wrong? i rotate it as it says in the booklet etc etc

such a simple job and such a pain in the ****, should of got a few boxs of Aldi drill sets

there utter garbage. that's it in a nutshellthe bins the best place for it. I got a rawlplug drill sharper given and its now in the bin

as said only got it as good reviews on MM site, peed off enough tonight, i hate waisiting money

I have one of those, my work is very hard on drill bits, snapping them, chipping shoulders etc etc... I found it does an ok job, but overheats in no time and thermal cutout seems to stay for ages.

Finally gave in and splurged on a Drill Dr, worlds apart, easy to setup and use, gives an edge like it came out of the factory, customise cutting angles and does split points, wish i had bought one years ago.

Not cheap are they but then they work hey lol, and this cut out after 10 mins running. didnt kick back in for 20 mins .

Many of these reviews are posted by people paid to do it or the site designers....

the draper one can be good. its a copy of the reliance sharpener . there difficult to set up and use . I have one . once u master it there good but most wont

Drill Doctors are good.

Which model though . There seems to be many. I guess it's of the darex ones??

there is one of these sharpeners in one of the fitting shops in work...i have only ever used it to get the engles back roughly on a snapped drill bit, think it was a 5mm, as it had only snapped a few mm off the top and seemed a shame to waste a good bit for a few mm...it worked ok to get the basic angles back on but had to finish it by hand

Expensive compared to all the others but it does the job, uses a diamond wheel so doesn't overheat the cutting edges. All my drill bits for work are cobalt and it handles them with ease.

i did do and got ripped off, reason i cant see the bits.

I do it by hand on my grinder i find it easier now i have dressed the wheels

any way i brought the kitchen a lidl knife sharpener and it has a drill bit attachment too i have done a few i messed up on it and it works well if bif IF u get the drill bit in the thingie holder right

I got a new wet/dry bench grinder to sharpen them at first, besides other uses for it though not just sharpen bits. I will take it back today and see what they will do, either give money back or the they sell the jig type. they may swap it for that.
