Hi Guys...

This is my first post on here... So please accept my apologies if I posted in the wrong Forum.
Last Month I purchased a cheap MIG of ebay for around £150. It's a Wolf 140! Bad idea!?
It seems ok do my car panels so far. I have attached some photo's of my first welds!
Just wondering if i can have you humble opinions... I think welds wasn't hot enough!?

I know there not great! but I have improved a lot since I will try and load newer photo's a bit later...

0.6mm argon/co2 1mm mild steel... setting level 2

yeah to cold turn down the wire speed on lower settings those welds are just sat on top of the steel also keep your hand steadier.

I have moved you to the introductions section.

We have seen a lot worse car repair welding, and a lot worse have got through the MOT.

They are sitting proud so that suggests your thoughts about heat are correct, of course when you up the heat you also up the chance of a blow through hence the reason for short joined tacks.

They have ground back quite good, you just have to be careful you have not ground away all the strength, that's the risk when your penetration is lacking.

Forgot to mention That I went over the same welds because I could see like pin holes when shining a light other side of the weld tacks.. Or That, I have a blown a hole and attempted to weld the hole!

Also I doubled welded! I meaning that I went underneath and did the same to the other side of the welded plate... Is this practice ok?

But these were my first welds. And So far the other butt Welds? Have been ok and no pin holes or blow troughs... I think my first welds were sitting proud because I tried to weld the pin holes....

you shouldn't need to do both sides as it should penetrate just practise more with various settings

Ok They did seem penetrate fairly well... But a few areas that didn't... So went underneath and buzzed them... Won't doing harm will it? I gave it a tap test with a hammer! Did seem quite strong!

your welds didn't penetrate properly that's why they sat proud on the top of the steel, they should have been a lot flatter not narrow and high you either needed to up the power or back off with the wire speed

I Found it very tricky on settings! Need a lot more practice! Wire-speed wasn't enough to much popping! or the Setting was too low and hardly tacking!? or next power level up and blowing holes!

But thank you for replying...

In your opinion will the welds hold... They feel solid... if you get my lack tech speak...

they will probably hold for that purpose, when the power is low and wire speed to high the weld will just build on the surface as yours did but slow down the wire speed move the torch slowly and smoothly along and you should start to see better results
