mk1 capri jap turbo project !

i finaly got me mk1, the car is a 1600 gt model but it will be a 1.8 or 2.0 200sx turbo powered when am finished on a whole the car is solid in the right places but it has suffered around the A posts and has some surface rust due to a bad bare metal job , it has been of the road since 1994 !

quick run down of the plan is colgne wide archs, red paint and big revs!!!!!!!!!!

I am a 1st time welder, after 4 years as a paint sprayer i still have never been tought

With those arches, it looks like a Capri 944.

Why not get a car that looks like that to begin with and already has 200+BHP and all the power you want, plus German galvanised build quality and a prestige badge.

Like this one in fact.

Proper 220 or 250BHP engine as standard, some modifiers have got over 400BHP.

my v8 was pushing 278bhp with 326lbt torq when on a holly 4 barrel, went like hell ! this one i am building thou will be much lighter and more agrresive turbo power , looking around the 300 bhp mark !

im not a porka fan tbh ! See them all the time ! and i like to be different

A 944 is different- and now rare. They were sold in far lower number than Boxters, new 911's and Cayenne's Caymans etc. I have a 944 so notice them when I see them on the road. Only seen two this year in Kent, but loads of Boxters, cayennes, 911s etc.

I'm not a Capri (or even a Ford fan tbh- I once owned a Sierra, never again!!!) but the look of your modified Capri with those arches reminds me so much of the classic 944 body shape that I wanted you to see that there is a coupe you can buy that already has that look, with more performance and far better handling. and better fuel economy too.

Good luck with your project car, it certainly has plenty of rust to keep you busy! As most Nissan 200's have rotted out by now- should be easy enough to get an engine from a scrap yard.

when you say 200sx engine do you mean the SR20DET engine as is the same in my pulsar? and if it is then you wont be disappointed as my pulsar goes like hell even though it ways 1250kgs youve got the looks of a retro car and the reliability and performance of one of the greatest engines from japan, you can get up to 300bhp from the sr20 engine with a few small mods like exhaust, big air filter and a remap without any internal work but if you want more then its new pistons and bearings of which Cosworth make some, so you can have a Ford Capri GTIR Cosworth

if you want an engine then ask Bob hayward from GTI-r-us in south end on sea he can built your engine to whatever spec hes one of the gods when it comes to these engines

hi mate yes . im going sr20 or ca18 , just depends what comes up 1st , I bought a pulsar when i sold my v8 an i ******* loved it just had insurance problems and to be fair i love classics , so the idea came about to have a capri gtiR i will be using a 200 sr thou as the north south rear wheel drive , makes life easyer !

i see ur from the wirel, when i needed a new clutch I went to DD autosport at warrington, they can also do engines for you, they have just done a pulsar for I think its ten of the best or something, anyway i think thats 500bhp but on the warm up lap the gearbox gave up and that was modified

soorry to keep talking about the pulsar on a ford thread but did you ever out do imprezas and evos in ur pulsar, cos I can only hold off astra Gsi's, ford focus rs's and other hot hatches but on the owners club they talk of outdoing gtr skylines and big boys toys, mine wouldn't

yeah i can remember blowing a audi s3 back to germany , my mate had a sierra cossie that couldnt keep up ! mine was running a 1 bar loop fmic and other mods !

A friend of mine bought a 3 litre Mk1 Capri this year, rebuilt bog standard he paid £15,000 for it.

Yes, no offense to the original poster but I can't understand why anyone would pay £15,000 for a Mk1 Capri when you can have a far superior 944 turbo or S2 for half the money!!!

Still, I like seeing projects so look forward to seeing the progress on this one.

its all about personal preference i have a mk2 golf its not the fastest or comfiest car but for me there is something about it
if the mk1 is going to be wide bodied like the grey one i think the wheels need to be wider or spaced out to fill the arches more

this is quite funny its funny how people get on the hating banwagon when they probably know nothing about the capri or very little !. i would run my capri against this porka 944 anytime , maybe around a twisty track the porka will come into its own . but hey ho , this time i will be running coilovers all round plus polys and and a modified mk2escort 4 link system !! then the porka will be left looking stupid

All due respect CJ, but I don't think you get it

They rust, they're underpowered, steering isn't great, suspension is hmmm, and the trim isn't brilliant.
A bloody great car!
