Mk 7 Golf Heater Problems

Car is a Mk 7 Golf TDI Bluemotion.

There is no air coming through the windscreen vents.

I don’t think the air flaps are working in the dash as I change the knob. I tried recalibration by holding in the ac and recirculation knobs. There was a bit of whirring noise behind the dash but it has made no difference.

I don't have a code reader but I could pop into my local garage and get it checked.

Does this point towards a faulty actuator? Are they hard to check or replace.

Update - I can hear the hot/cold actuator working but the head/feet flap actuator is silent.
The air recirculation one is silent too and the button only lights up occasionally.

Depending which one(s) need replacement, they're not too bad - however, and there's always a 'however' with VWG stuff, they're on a LIN and will need the basic setting sequence run to identify and store the actuator addresses - which in turn will need a VCDS login code....

It could well be one actuator pulling the LIN down, there are two for the HVAC actuators, so try pulling the connector from each one in turn and see if there is a change in functionality after an ignition cycle with at least ten seconds between the off & on to make sure the power latch is released.

I understood some of that but I'll have a look under the dash and see if I can unplug some of them.

On some online videos they just swap out the actuators without doing any diagnostics and it seems to work ok.

Well I don’t know how as they’re uniquely addressed, TBH I’ve only ever replaced them using the proper workshop procedures which specifically mentioned running the teach-in process, they may work, but unless the controller ‘knows’ which actuator is in each position, I can’t see how.

Looking online it seems to be a common issue across the vag cars of that era.
