Mixing

Hi all, Just getting myself ready for spraying for the first time, but im stuck on the mixing of the primer, basecoat and laquer.

Im going to be using 2K Primer and Laquer and the basecoat is Ford Moondust Silver, Do I just ask the paint supplier for the mixing quantities for thinners and hardner, or is it all guess work?

when you get your paint, ask the paint supplier for the hardener for the paint and primer (it's normally 1/5 litre of hardener to a litre of paint but they'll advise you), and also a MIXING STICK, and technical data sheet (this will give you all the info you need), this will have the ratio printed on it, then all you do is first add your paint to the pot (with the stick in the pot) and read off the mark for paint, then add hardener to the corresponding mark and thinners, get your paint supplier to explain how it works, it's very simple.
As for the basecoat, that'll only have thinners added.

AND DON'T FORGET YOUR AIR FED MASK!!!

Just to add check with your paint supplier about the basecoat as some ix 50-50 and some 2-1, and use paint strainers.

Hi guys, got all my paint etc other day, i was told that moondust silver is a 1:1 mix ration with thinners and I should use "Poly" thinners or something along those lines, Im assuming as long as I dont use thinners for cellulose paint ill be okay with just using universal thinners right?

Never heard of poly thinner ??? You use Basecoat thinner in Basecoat, As John says the info you have been given sounds a bit iffy !!!

It'll be me guys I'm sketchy haha, the basecoat is 1-1or50-50 and I'm going to use standard thinners to test it and see what happens. The paint is from a local company called spectrum paints in southport, there okay but a bit impatient but handy.

Its okay guys ive ordered some propper thinners aparently the thinners I got was celly and no good for my paint. Make isnt on the tub will be handy for just cleaning i expect.

We don't seem to be getting anywhere here What make is the paint ??? if you mean there is no name on the paint tin i would think again, even the cheap paints have the makers name on the tin.

Can I just get a confirmation that it's normal to have a 1k basecoat when spraying metallic? I'll definitely be using a 2k clearcoat over the top, and base, clear and primer will all be acrylic products from a local producer called Profix.
