Amazing what a few days can make to your thinking
Now decided that the sensible thing to do is use whole Series Land Rover axles and wheels. That way I get ease of spares availability plus fitment of the wheels I want without adapters.
Dana 44's are far superior to the Land Rover axles however my intended usage will never stress the drivetrain enough to justify keeping the tougher Dana items.
Now the search is on for axles and standard swb steel wheels

Been offered a pair of 109 axles for free . Not sure if rear will be Rover or Salisbury but at least front will come with decent brakes. I've had 5 Series Land Rovers so am used to them plus have loads of brand new parts (swivels, brakes, bearings etc) left over from a failed restoration project.
