I've heard of this before, when a child has died, the parents can't face clearing out the room so the door is locked/sealed up and everything left as is. Not necessarily the case with yours but a possibility.

That was our thoughts at the time.

House had been sold a few times since and very few had a loft conversion, access was through another bedroom and the loft windows were not visible from street level

Mrs C and I were a bit bored. Lets get the bedroom redecorated,. paper off and get plasterer in. Oh lets get rid of the some of the overkill cupboards while we are at it. Bedroom has a million cubic feet pf cupboard space.This the estate agents photo

The lovely polystyrene tiles came off cleanly a miracle
Then the ceiling fell in. Time for the professionals. Absolutely disgusting
good guys, they taped the door shut and cling filmed the stairs

such a terrible mess I figured the ceiling of the stairwell is knackered so do them both. Ive heard legends about lath and plaster; its as bad as the legends.
Then the artex on the one wall looked a bit iffy, it was holding the wall up. Fell off in one piece.

All destruction done, next is board over the really bad bits then skim the whole stairwell.

the spare bedroom is never ever going to be touched, it can keep it's lovely polystyrene tiles and bullet proof wallpaper

An investment though and luckily I have funds for the job.
When this over I start on the floor.

Interestingly on my Facebook there is a pattern of this type of behaviour at this time of year going back about five years.

Sister in law is always immaculate. She and husband bought an old terraced house as their first home and proceeded to remove the old lathe ceilings in the bedrooms. I went along to help and cart waste to council tip (this was 30+ years ago when councils allowed DIY waste !). What we didn't know was that somehow smoke had got into the attic cavity and it was full of soot. Needless to say when old ceiling was dropped there was a deluge of the black stuff covering sister in law from head to toe. This is the only time in 50 years I've ever seen here even the slightest grubby never mind filthy. Luckily she took it in good manner and even today we laugh about it. Pity it was before mobile phones so no pictures taken

I've found some proper archeology on renovations, strangest being a sealed up room that was clearly a child's bedroom in the 60s. Untouched and the door (attic room) boarded over. Complete with clothes, furniture and toys.

That's literally the plot of several horror novels. Hope there wasn't a creepy doll in there that you gave to your kids after which inevitable scenes of carnage unfolded.

Our second house had a fair bit of the previous owner's personal stuff. It was an old person's house and he'd moved in with his sister. I think he just couldn't face the hassle of coming back for it all as it wasn't anything of value.
