I would add a note of caution however. I fitted one when I put the water softener in and whilst it does reduce the ultimate pressure, it also reduces the flow which is PITA when I try and fill a kettle when Mrs RWD is runniung a bath!

Doesnt help in your case, but can't he fit the regulator to the shower feed only, which will avoid that problem? Drop the pressure for the shower but leave everything else as is?

Nice idea, but we also have the issue of the Combi boiler also objecting to the pressure, so it makes more sense to regulate at the incomer, or close to it.

Yep, our water pressure varies a lot through the day.
Being rural the pressure is lowest at milking time, 5 to 7pm.

I put a pressure reducing valve on our incoming supply. It's about 200m from the house. It's set to about 4 bar. I don't think it impedes flow too badly. We get about 16-16.5 litres per minute at the kitchen tap.

Without it we'd be at 16bar or something silly as it's a fair fall over the 1.5 ish miles from our meter.
