Me too , I'd go with stick.4mm 7018 vac pack rods and a 180 amp inverter stick welder (160 might do) would be my go-to... that or become very good at welding uphill/overhead with mig...
Even better, some dualshield fluxcore, but you'll need to have a welder that can run 220 amps at a good duty cycle still.
Dual shield needs a lot of amps
I use 1.2mm dualshield (E71-T1 if I'm not mistaken) at work for welding buckets.
Welders are miggatronic 350A MIG, with 2 rough adjustment and 10 fine , I set at 2-6 current settings so 350/20=17.5 17.5•16=280A for welding 10mm to AR plates ,250A for just 10 to 10mm welding
An between 6 to 10 meters minute it depends a lot by the position and what we're looking to achieve but rarely over those settings
We use 82% argon 18% CO2 mix , maybe the settings and gas mixture are not ideal but that's what we use.
Totally wrong over 250A on 1.2 hard wire we do that too
