I lived that way for about ten years , it takes a lot of self discipline , then rather than your possessions taking over your space the clean lines take over ,,,, I used to think my place was untidy if I didnt have hoover lines on the one carpet in the house ,,, people who came to visit thought id been burgled ,,,
then I bought a hundred year old estate workers cottage , and went completely the other direction ,,
I enjoyed both properties , just in different ways .

So went back too ffordes yesterday and they returned two more of my granddad's Lenses to me and gave me £300 off in store so I got myself a second hand camera with a 1 new lens and 1 second hand lens. Got a new samyang AF50/1.4 FE, and a Sony alpha 7mrk 2 and just a big standard sony kit lens. And an adaptor which lets me use the two small Minolta lenses and the vivitar series 1 with my new camera. The Minolta af lens dosent fit it so I'm assuming I have to fin my self a different adaptor for that one. Also kept an original Olympus OM camera which needs a service and a Minolta 700x

Well i just got kicked in the nads a bit on price, turned out several cameras were faulty with fungus in the lenses & shutter issues. Not surprising really considering they had sat in a damp house unused for ten years. Told them to carry on & pay me. What would i do with the junk ones put them back in the loft?

Yeah that's the problem isn't it most of mine went for recycling better than just sitting around here.

I was lucky the expensive ones were ok, i would have been pig sick if they had been bad. To be honest mum & dads house always had damp problems & they had the heating up like a furnace. Those cameras had been stewing in there for 30 years so im probably lucky to get away with it at all.

Do you Chuck it as soon as it's unpacked or keep it for a while in case you have to return it. A month, twelve months or longer.
I'd probably have more space if I got rid of packaging

Problem is CEX offer very little.
For instance one of the old PC games I have regularly sells on eBay for £40 to well over £100. CEX will buy for 1p

I'd take the time to sell it on ebay then

I was a sod for that too. I keep a box for a few week now, & then it's gone.

The lad we looked after just asked for all his boxes back Luckily the wife had them stored in the back of a wardrobe, the boxes alone can up the price of selling a console on !

My parents didnt drive so this meant that every box & package that ever came into their house over 30 years had been flatpacked & put into the cellar. The cellar was made up of several small rooms, it was packed solid. Took me weeks to empty it. Good bonfire though!

Depends I kept the boxes for all my games and games consoles it adds up when you eventually sell them. Always got a lot more on trade ins on tech with original boxes. The moulded plastic trays snap on tools come in are worth a small fortune all on their own. Think it depends on the item your selling.

I throw boxes out as soon as the item is out of the box, don't see the point in keeping it. I don't sell things, by the time I'm finished with electronics they're either too old or too broken to sell.

A have kept some boxes to keep things safe when I move house, still got my monitor's box for example.

You should keep the boxes for at least one month, preferably three to six due to the bathtub curve and to an extent, the Consumer Rights Act 2015. You can return a faulty item within 30 days for refund and up to six months unchallenged for repair. Having original packaging although not a legal requirement, always makes life easier.

I've never had a problem returning things in the wrong packaging. In fact, I've had a bike and a TV manufacturer send out new boxes to package their respective products to return them in.

I have the original box my Olympus camera came in 40 years ago. Having the box can add a lot to the resale value if the item itself is in good nick - especially vintage toys. Thing is, when you buy this stuff you don't know if the item itself is going to be worth something in 40 years or not. And it's a long time to keep the boxes 'just in case'.

We only keep the boxes of expensive electronics now, and then only til the warranty is up. Even then I can't remember when we last returned something.

I work on the assumption that space is more important, now. I never buy owt I intend to resell, so the resale value part is moot for I.
