I met a couple of blokes from Reading University who'd shoved a Rover V8 into an original mini that had blown an engine.

Rear wheel drive and rear seat drive... They left the front seats in but had to notch them to fit everything in. Also took it out on the road and said if was hilarious pulling up at lights and watching people's faces with no one in the front seats.

Spun the wheels in all gears so was massively beneficial if you got the heaviest friend you knew to sit in the passenger seat.

There was a Mini near us that had a Riley 1.5 engine, gearbox & axle in & driven from the back seat. This would be early 70’s. It was a bit of Heath Robinson job, but seemed to work ok, no idea what happened to it.

I won a less than to MSA regs sprint in a Westfield with a passenger - made an enormous difference to rear end grip.
