Right whell whilst i try to forget about the mess on the sides of the mini, i thought id just show you what i was doing before the gas ran out.

The mini came with a big aluminium fuel tank which takes up most of the boot. It had a central filler hole and various other bits that i didn't like, so i was going about putting it to rights.


The first task was to trim the un-used side filler down to length:

Then test fit the purchased filler cap and stub:

It was slightly too long, so chucked in on the lathe, then another test fit, and tack:

Then after a few tacks it was fully welded.... not very pretty i'm afraid. I cant weld out of position!

All ground back and with the cap in place.... much nicer

Then i got on to sorting out the massive hole in the centre of the tank:

I thought i'd try filling the small holes using a piece of brass as the backing. Never tried it before but it seemed to work ok:

My intention is to use the centre hole to fit a fuel level gauge. But the hole it too big, so the easiest fix seemed to be put a plate over the top:

And then i ran out of gas...........And then i was stupid and cut the side skirts off.

i wouldnt say stupid, id rather have found out and ammended the wood issue than possibly have probelms while on the road
