Mini resto welder choice help?!

Hey,

I'm new around here (and to the whole welding thing), I've had a 1989 Mini sat in the garage for a while waiting to be sorted and have now decided to crack on with the work.

The 'standard' panels are gonna need doing (scuttle, floor footwells, outter and inner sills) and I have found a second hand Clarke 105En Turbo for the job. I plan on running on gas and will of course also buy mask and gloves etc

I have yet to buy it and just want to double check it would be suitable for the job; assuming I can teach my self as required?!

Welcome to the forum

I think the Clarke goes down to 30amps, which is about the norm for most hobby welders, good little machine with a great spares availability.

Get the owner to show you it working and producing some decent welds, any excuses and it may be faulty or need a service kit, wire, swan neck and tip, you can barter that into the price.

If he won't show it working at all then walk away.

Last mini I did I used a 151turbo and its more than up to the job but you will want to get a big Y size bottle of gas as I used 1 full bottle on the mini which needed the same stuff as yours, well in the end it needed so much more...
