mini man says hello

Hi I'm Steve and I've never welded before. Last year my youngest daughter's boyfriend did extensive welding on my 44 year-old mini without which I couldnt have done the job.

Now that I have bought another mini-rotbox I have had to buy a second-hand mig because daughter and boyfriend have parted company. Shouldnt complain though because he's built me an ace workshop on their farm and so now I only have to learn how to do it. Watch the mig forum for my questions very soon. Steve.

Welcome & wow Steve, what lovely long hair you have - are those welding approved shoes you're wearing?
No wonder he let you keep the workshop on his farm if you're always wearing 'unsuitable' clothing

(Interested in why you changed the colour, but thats another time :-))

What welder have you opted for?
An auto shade visor is a very handy purchase, along with some welding gloves.

If you have the basics already (Mig, gas, wire and a power supply), and you can't wait to get started on some practice welds, may I suggest you gather some scraps and have a read of the tutorials here

Depending on what you're aiming for in the finished car, I would always try to use quality replacements, as the pattern type can be a pain in the ar*e unless you're not in to much of a hurry - or skint

Good luck with the 'new' mini. Plenty of very skilled folk on here to run to if you hit a problem - and all very friendly

this place is slowly being taken over by minis, 3rd one in a month or so good stuff. good luck with the mini reviving!

Hello. That looked like some serious work on that Mini. I too have always liked Minis. Wanted to buy one recently, but the misses wasnt keen, pfft what does she know!!

I've helped build ministocks race cars before ... well ... firewatcher :lol:
...and only from crappy beyond repair minis though !
