Mini die grinders

I'd like to get a new one. More commonly called a rotary tool or dremmel.

Quality of them is usually terrible with only one bearing for the shaft, causing the tiny motor bearings to overheat and fail, which happened recently to my Lidl one.

I'm after a brushless battery type. Makita dont seem to make one, but Milwaunkee do an M12?

I've got both the Dremel and the bosch 12v versions.
Bosch own Dremel now and I think the machines are identical.
They have both held up very well.

If you already have a battery platform the that bramd obviously makes sense.

If you want something that will last under serious abuse then go Pneumatic

You'll need a good compressor to run a pneumatic one, no comparison between this and a Dremel.

I'd go with a Dremmel if you can find a deal on a cordless one. My Lidl cordless knockoff packed in after a year or so of light use and the on/off button on my other knockoff is dodgy. The corded Dremmel is still going strong.

I have both the Milwaukee M12 rotary tool (3.2mm collet same as Dremel) and die grinder (6 & 8mm collects).

The rotary is basically the same as a Dremel but it isn't a brushless motor and not missed out on it not being one either. mainly used as mini cut off tool song Dremel discs but also with die grinders (Amazon) for very fine work. I think there is a sub compact one but not sure on any functional differences as the standard is small enough and without a cord is very versatile, replaced my corded Dremel and has been a lot more used too. Standard one as in the link below can be picked up for around £60, sub compact even less.

The die grinder is available as straight and right angled and is brushless. I've had both and rarely used the straight as preferred the right angle so sold it on. Gets lots of use mainly with Roloc sanding discs and 3M bristle brushes for quick and easy clean ups of rust and paint. Also with Dormer die grinders for bigger jobs,
Milwaukee have just released a 2nd gen of these so probably pick them up cheaper as suppliers clear stock for the new arrivals. Noticeable a lot more power in the motor than a rotary tool but also aimed at completely different tasks

Not dc or brushless but I have a Katsu mini grinder. Takes mini cutting discs or fit a collet in the hollow threaded shaft & you can use dremel type 1/4" bits in it.
It's surprisingly handy, & also surprisingly has managed to do a fair amount of work & still going.
I'd buy another if it packed up.

I have a full size Fakita 18v die grinder, its a great tool but too big and heavy for this use which is sharpening chainsaws.

I want something small and compact that can live in my spare chain/sharpening box.

I'll add that I usually sharpen with files however they are easily blunted if the chrome has rolled, which is common of the chain has been abused in dirt or roots, which I do reasonably often. I wont do it with my good chains.

My 6/6.5mm 500W Metabo was considerably dearer, 20 yrs ago, so was the flexi shaft that came with it.

I use a Milwaukee M12 Die grinder with an adapter to turn the 6mm chuck into 3.2 / 3.4mm for the Dremel bits (normally their quick release diamond cutting disk).

The "new" Dremels are no where near the quality of old unfortunately (20+ years back).

Ended up with 2 M12's, one with the Snap-on carbide bur in it and one with the Dremel Diamond cutting wheel..
