After flogging the cordless kit I'm missing the drill. The others are more suited as corded items for in the little shop but the cordless drill needs to come back into my life.
Who has this one key thingy. I've researched a little bit and it's clever stuff. The custom modes is probably something I'd leave at factory settings but I do like the security settings available of been able to lock and track the tool at the touch of a button on the app. Saw a YouTube video on it and you can pretty much make the tool do what you want it to (within reason, it doesn't make a brew.........yet!). Loads of Milwaukee fans on here. Anyone upgraded to ONE-KEY™ yet.

Maybe he should be renamed gadjet boy, having said that, the ability to be able to track expensive tools so often stolen isnt actually a bad idea.

If I was paying that much for gear it would never leave my sight. Besides in a noisy work environment I rarely if ever hear my phone.

Looks like a interesting idea. Am a fan of Milwaukee but have not seen this.
Was only wondering yesterday how long till one of the big welding manufactures comes up with an app to store personalised setting you can transfer from machine to machine.

You say that shox but if someone had just swiped your drill and your able to deem it completely useless to them isn't that a positive thing?
Sure I agree lots of it is gimmicky but actually when you look into some of it it's quite clever stuff

I don't see any negatives from it unless you don't actually like Milwaukee because it's just a Milwaukee drill with the same price tag as before. It's not any more expensive.
You don't have to use it but some of it looks useful.

Do they have GPS or anything to locate a stolen tool? Making it not work isn't going to help you unless every potential thief knows you'll disable the tool as soon as they pinch it, no one's gonna return it to you when it stops working.

Ha. If only. I don't have any geeky gadgets to my knowledge. I started the thread to find out if it's actually any good or easy to use. Obviously the ones commenting don't know and are speculating a little. I just wanted to know if anyone has it and is it any good. At the moment I'm going to buy a cordless drill and I'm looking for one of equal quality to the one I've just sold but a lump lighter. Is a ONE-KEY™ worth having???

Do they have GPS or anything to locate a stolen tool? Making it not work isn't going to help you unless every potential thief knows you'll disable the tool as soon as they pinch it, no one's gonna return it to you when it stops working.

I don't think it's that clever maker but could be wrong. I think you would need to disable it when you put it away in your van/garage from what I've read. Tracking seems limited too. If it's nicked it's gone but if it ever finds its way to within 100ft of your phone it sends you a notification (unlikely yes but better than nothing I suppose.). Your right if the tool doesn't work no one is returning it but at least no tea leaves are using or flogging it either. Again not brilliant but better than nothing

New chainsaws are sort of doing this. The husky 550 has a chip that sets the carb according to what height you are working above sea level. First time you start it each day your meant to let it sit and tick over for a few minutes to let it do its magic. I would guess a tracker that fits in a tool will be along shortly, seen one on Facebook that is the same size as an old 5p coin

I've seen similar with production battery tools, when you replace a flat battery the tool needs to be enabled, normally by a supervisor who will have an RFID type keyfob. Once folks know how the system works less tools tend to go "walkies".

Would you recognise your drill on eBay?
If it had distinctive marks or ID's would the thief put a clear picture of your exact tool up to advertise it?
I'd sooner see it lost forever on the basis he/she ain't gonna get a benefit from it one bit than the very very slim chance you might spot your name scribed down the side of the handle.

That's the thing as well once it becomes known these one key tools are often locked up it's less likely people are gonna go to the effort to lift them. It won't stop it but may deter a few idiots. The thing is good or bad it's still a typical Milwaukee drill by the look of it. And I cannot find much in the way of a price difference between it and the standard fuel. It doesn't seem to effect the drill or take any of its usual features away from what I've read so where is the negative. There must be a catch surely. I don't think you need to pay subscription but could be wrong.

Watched a YouTube vid on the mode settings. I would probably use this to a degree.
Power setting one... some times correct me if I'm wrong but can still be too quick on the rpm if used with big bits in steel. You can set the rpm to wherever you like. I think it's 500 ish rpm on the low speed high torque mode you can set it to 100 if you want. That's quite useful for a cordless drill imo.
