Milwaukee chargers

Anyone else get through a lot of Milwaukee chargers I seem to get 6ish-12months out of them. The fast charger ones seem to last longer than the basic one but I dunno. Is it something to do with being in metal working environment. They never leave the workshop. Getting pretty expensive having to buy them regularly even if they are cheap

It's metal filings and moisture from the damp winters

I still have my original rapid charger on the go, now joined by a second charger.

When I first started buying their tools I always got a charger and battery as they had some kind of deal on. Those chargers are mainly in a bag now as spares, just in case whilst a few have been sold with tools as unused. I guess I’ve been lucky as I’ve never had a battery fail either and that includes the M18 9ah which is supposedly the most unreliable

I got two Milwaukee fast chargers on the go - both wall mounted. Never had one fail in all these years.

Got a few spare 12v only ones about hid up and not in use - but the only two 18v fast chargers I got are in use.

I do blow the wall mounted chargers out with an airline - every so often - not sure how often...? Maybe every few months when I have a tidy up of the bench they are over...?


Batterys - had one 18v 5ah one fail under warrenty - every other 12v/18v I got seems to be doing well...

Try them in an old fridge. That will keep the damp off and the dust off. Drill a hole and pass a de-plugged extension lead from inside to outside.

Do you leave them powered up when there is no battery in them? Would that make any difference.?

I had one stop working last month - took the fuse out the plug and put it back in and that seemed to solve it. That was the limit of my electrical ability. Had one M18 battery fall apart (bottom fell out it had stripped the screws out) but that was probably from being dropped too many times. I mostly use the M12 range now and love it. No issues with any of it so far.

If your having problems, you can open them up before they fail and spray the board with conformal coating. That will prevent dust and moisture issues.

Similar problem with my Makita MP001 air inflator, the sligtest esposite to cold and it seems to get condensation or moisture shorting oit the pcb/screen. Its in warranty but I only imagine a new one would be the same. Do I send it for repair -likely a straight replacement, or void the warranty, open it up and spray it myself..?


Avoid grinding inside. Too much dust everywhere.

I chuck a microfibres cloth over mine when not in use to keep damp and dust at bay

I had one go, long time ago maybe 5 years and bought a fast charger and thats been fine, but i'm in the habit of switching it off before pulling a single battery out, if there's one in the other port it seems happy
