I've just shelled out on a Bridgeport turret mill as my trike fabricating shop has moved towards much more demanding engineering. Besides having to learn long forgotten techniques, I have very little tooling. I need practically everything from a good milling vice, R8 collets, V blocks, everything really. So I'm wondering if anyone has a job lot of milling tools they could be persuaded to part with cheaply, to get me started?

I’m in a similar situation my old machine was morse 3 taper and my new spindle is R8. Annoying to replace all the tooling I already have.

Possibly not as I will assume the tooling mentioned by @Allthegearnoidea will have a thread for a drawbar because they are milling cutters/collet chucks. With that adapter it would be relying solely on the taper to hold them in place and with milling tools the side load would work them loose in short order. Fine for drills though as the force is along the axis of the tool so no side loading.

Hi all the machine did come with an adapter, but I think this is just for a morse tapper with a tang. As said I don’t think the draw bar will go through the adapter into my old morse taper tooling. I going out in the garage later to play if I can get through the snow and will have a look.

All in the fullness of time. At the moment, collets, milling vice will be a start. But a job lot of tools would work out cheaper.

I checked the M8 adapter that came with my machine and it’s only designed to take morse taper with a tang and won’t allow the draw bar to pass through the adapter into my old style tooling. I will have to have another look at the previous link to see if it’s the same etc.

My boring head is mt2 or 3 i forget from my old chester mill, and is used with an adaptor to r8. I trimmed the mt tang off to get the drawbar right through. Not pretty but it works.
Obviously not easy to separate the parts, but can be done using vice, hammer and suitable othere bits and bobs
