As above - there are a few cutter shank sizes, the Clarkson chuck will come with (should come with) a few collets for the main sizes of shank, either metric or imperial IF I remember right. There are two chuck sizes too, with different cutter/collet ranges,
OR... An ER25, 32 or 40 collet chuck with an MTn shank and a set of collets? I like ER, as the collets have quite a wide range of fit, e.g. the 13mm will fit anything from 12 to 13mm so they hold Imperial (e.g. 1/2" = 12.7mm) just as well, being double-taper they hold the cutter for the full length in the collet unlike Morse taper and R8 etc. collets (limited range as stretching or tightening beyond their sizes turns the parallel "jaws" into conical surfaces).
Tip for ER collet use - if the part you're holding is only just into the collet, fit a plug the same diameter in the back to ensure it stays parallel (1/2mm steps makes an useful set if you do - and put a flange on the end so they're easy to pull back out, unless you're lopping the ends off a set of metric drills!)

many of us have had that problem, usually on a Saturday night!Thats a useful thing to know! Ive had parts come out when only gripped by the first 10mm.

Theres no reason toAlways shoved my Clarkson's in an r8 collet.
Never had a problem. Never occurred to me to question it.
yep. That's what I assumed when I first got the mill drill.Theres no reason to
Clarkson chucks can only take threaded cutters , conventional collets like r8 can hold anything
So basically I need a chuck to fit in my miller that accepts the bits shown and so will screw in the chuck. The bits sizes are 0.225, 0.25, 0.325, 0.5 & 0.625 in So reading your replies the Clarkson chuck sounds like it will do.
I have a Clarkson with collets and drawbar sitting here doing nothing - it came with the Amolco mill but I
fitted an E32 collect chuck and sourced a full set of holders, so it's redundant.
Only thing is, I have no idea what it would be worth
EDIT: Oh, and the spanner too
