Anything from Miller is well respected in the industry & always will be. The MIGMatic units are the compact step mig's IIRC.
Not sure if the unit is American or Italian made as the build country differs from machine to machine, American built is obviously better than Italian.

A while back I was looking at the Miller MIGMatic 175 & I'm still very tempted.

Overall very robust, reliable machine.

Mind me asking what you'd be using it for?

Project garage work, bench building, car body work things. I understand being a 3phase it's probably overkill but the auction may end in my favour at a more than reasonable price!

Sound good, assuming you've already got a 3 phase power supply built into your garage?

It's not equipped for it, but it does have a fuse box in there so I was going to speak to a sparky about having one wired in to the fuse box. Do you have any experience to share in that area?

Ahh I see, I've not got personal experience with home 3 phase supply but I know for a fact that it'll cost you an arm, a leg, your left eyeball & a few thousand pounds on top of that.. Depending on the distance your underground cabling needs running

You could consider a 3 phase converter?

It's not as simple as that, you need to actually check to see if there is some 3 phase nearby, even so it can still be very expensive to upgrade to and you may well be better off beefing up your existing 240v and buying a set that will work off that.

Been told it will cost me about £1,000 having 3phase fitted. It would be easier spending that on a welder that runs on 240v standard supply.

Just bought a Miller 250dx. Appears to be superb. It has jumpers for 240/415v. So you can run it on whatever supply you have.

3 phase means you can get a lathe, mill and decent pillar drill though.....
