Miller Digital Elite edges brightness and middle brightness

Ok so basically when I have my helmet on cut mode the middle is sometimes lighter than the sides but when I am welding with it the edges are lighter. There is nor real defined line where the light changes but I can tell where it changes on the cutting mode. Also when I am welding sometime I can only see the arc and not the metal I am welding so I drop a shade and then the arc is too bright is there anything I can do about this. I am thinking about going to a passive helmet to avoid these problems. Is this a reasonable thing to do? I have a spare Cigweld Genuine Hiderok that I might just start using are these any good.
