Expensive, for a used chinese lathe. New ones didnt cost much more?
If your extremely linited in space, a normal 10" chinese lathe is probably a better bet.

Thats a new one. I may be wrong as to, if they are any good. The spec is certainlly better than a 10", you get a lot more swing.

I guess the value is in the eye of the beholder but I would never pay £1100 for one of those.

I wouldn't give 500 for one. I've seen one of the Clarke ones in the flesh. What an utter pile of steaming dog...

Having said that, I used to know a guy who worked for Chester. Apparently they had a department that reworked and painted the machines.

It's very very similar to my Chester mill/lathe machine.

It is too expensive even if it comes with lots of tooling. Mine was about £900 6 years ago and it came with a lot of tooling and accessories including a pumped coolant system and stand / cupboard.
It will do decent enough lathe work but the mill is a bit flimsy I think although it does work.

If that lathe comes with a load of tooling and works ok then I'd offer no more than £750 tops.
You can buy a new one for very little more than that second hand one!

The one thing it does offer for a small sized lathe is a large centre height, distance between centres and spindle bore.

Having been spending some time with a Harrison M300, even more so.

I believe they are all made in the same factory or at least cast in the same foundry.

As others have said though they can turn out some decent work if time is spent fettling them first.
