I've still not purchased a pillar drill. Though I did have my eyes on a Meddings with single phase control box that sold on eBay for £360 this morning.
Having failed to win that I borrowed the very cheapest Clarke pillar drill to countersink some holes. It was truely terrible, bent all over the place, no power, and too much speed. Supporting the work in an unorthodox manner and straining the motor to slow it did the trick but it was a hassle.
We've got loads of space here but very little money and only single phase. Also I very rarely drill or mill, but it would be handy sometimes to have the capability to do both. I'll keep looking at ancient pillar drills on eBay, but spotted a Clarke mill drill like this one at MM nearby. Has anyone tried one and are they usable or disappointing?
