Military vehicles

Just got back from an MVT do at Ashdown Camp, Evesham. Just a load of sad s0ds like me who get a thrill out of old military vehicles !
Apart from being as muddy as a very muddy thing it was good stuff.
Have been thinking about getting a WW2 Willys Jeep for a while now so I had a chat with an owner of a nice example to find out how much and what to look for. I almost fainted when he said that a proper origina minter with all the bits would be £20K !!! 10 years ago that was £7K !
Will have to get creative as thats way over my budget.

Yup, that be the one ! Just driving down on the day, bit of a trek but thats the way it has to be !
I am SO looking forward to seeing their Tiger 1 !

that's the last running tiger as far as i know
yes the Jeeps are now fetching silly money i had two of them 40 years ago paid a £100 each for them one with a cracked block but good tub second one good engine block etc and rough tub bald tyres rest mostly scrap but a runner made a good one out of the two one was a ford one was a willys only front cross member is different one round one square

I'll only be able to manage Tank Fest this year. It is the only running Tiger at the moment but I believe there could be another 2 in the near future.
Wish I'd filled a barn with Jeeps at those prices, could have had a good early retirement on the proceeds !

I was at Bovington a few years back with junior when he was a human being.
He loved the king Tiger and I was going to steal the Jagdpanther awesome machines.
We were after attacking his school.
Note at tank displays point your digital camera down the barrel of the gun with the flash on. Junior got some amazing photos doing that. Mostly of crisp packets but a few of the rifling and the head of the shell in the breach. I will have a look for his old photo's.

Buy a Russian vehicle. Much cheaper but fun, robust vehicles. I have had many different ones and still own an Uaz 452.

Noooooo !! I've no time for reasonable projects let alone the a55 end of a skip !
Just want to get in and drive it, someone else having done all the hard work

I was down at Martin-Baker t'other week and the Director keeps his DUKW there... hasn't turned a wheel in years apparently although it looks ready for action.
Last one I saw before that was painted canary yellow, had been chopped about and was taking tourists up and down the Mersey

Engine seized up in my old Tranny, in deep snow in mid Wales years ago. Middle of nowhere and a Uaz turned up and offered a lift. It took me to within 8mls from home. Had a petrol fuelled heater inside which was volcanic!!! Lovely.

I like most military vehicles, and have rebuilt 3 ex Swiss/Austrian Haflingers.
But my ALLTIME fave is an AEC Matador, a vehicle which exceeded expectations by miles. There are 2 locally, a 1941 and a 1943, neither of which have had any engine work whatsoever, they are both working vehicles.
Max speed about 28mph, but I'd drive one all day.My Dad drove one throughout WW2

Local to me is a woodyard and they have 2 off those !! Both with crane winches on the back. They are used for pulling heavy logs from river banks etc. They have another which rolled down a hillside a few years ago and demolished the cab, which is wooden. It's in the process of being rebuilt.
Like the Uaz story !

I love the old bread vans! id really love to see this as iv only seen them at shows or youtube. Youl have no issues selling it as there rare as rocking horse poo. Good luck on the job front mate

Actually they are very hard to sell. Not many people want Russian vehicles.
