Hello all,
I am obviously new to the forum but have been monitoring and using the advice given by many knowledgeable peeps on this forum for some time
I bought a ropey old van last year which needed extensive welding for the MOT, so decided a mig welder would be the way to go to get it sorted.
Having never welded before, i began googling, and found you guys.
I purchased a clarke 110E welder which has been perfect for my needs thus far, and helped in getting mine and my mates bikes to the IOM TT last year in said van!
I also own a ducati 999s, which has a full termignoni stainless steel exhaust fitted.
I have just purchased a new swingarm (later braced model) which means the exhaust no longer fits and needs extensive modding.
These exhausts are like rocking horse poo, and very expensive, so getting the correct fitting alternative is not an option.
I have some matching stainless tube with several bends etc already in it, which is the same in every way (guage etc)
My question is this.......
I am not deluded enough to think i could carry out a good enough job myself with a hobby mig welder on a 2.5k exhaust, but do feel i am competent enough to cut and fabricate the relevant bends etc myself, and tack the pieces together in order to then give to a professional tig welder to finish.
Can i get away with using the mild steel to tack the exhaust meaning i don't have to shell out on stainless wire (which im unlikely to ever use again) with the assumption the pro would tig weld in a couple of places, then "remove" my welds and finish the job off?
I am going to have the pipe coated after with nickel ceramic.
Any advice and help will be hugely appreciated.
Matt
