Mine has the remote controls, hence the Satellite in the name I think. If that one's the right size (and working, obviously ), could be interested, how many 'bucks' are we talking?

Economy of scale...

... and not having to support the huge overheads of a corporation the size of 3M.

There's no doubt that Speedglas established themselves as the market leader, and have set the price benchmark for other high end brands like Optrel...

But it would be naïve to think their selling price bears much relation to their cost of manufacturing at this stage, it's all brand and overhead.

FWIW, one of my helmets is a genuine Speedglas and the other is a Jackson Safety retrofitted with a cheap chinese True-Colour ADF... For some things, the Jackson is just nicer to use.

My cheapo has given up after 7 years of being chucked in the back of the car as an emergency thing, will sit there strobing and work if I started welding.
Obvious choice was duff batteries, striped the little flasher down and ch battery's,
Both 3.06 V hey-ho new helmet or unit.
Meanwhile the Optrel in Wshop has not missed a beat, now do I buy another cheapy or buy a Esab something, been using it to weld piles for 2 days, the cheap seems to be a good bet as it is muddy again and I don't think I could put even a mid priced hood in that environment mate had to wash the mud out of his when he put it down and it sunk in a puddle of mud. Any one want the bits screen not cracked 2 battery's pot etc, post cost only

I use a Chinese clone of a true colour, and it's remarkably good, especially for the price.

we have a razorweld rwx6000. from my understanding (unless im wrong) these are jasic imported to usa and rebranded. its advertised as true color. yes they are from china as is all the jasic equipment

Aldi had welding masks in at the weekend...

Difficult to tell what is middle ground or just price gouging.
Even 80% of the top masks will be made in far east China

jasic is one of the big names in china for welding gear so you should be fine with their mask. another thing is that alot of the china masks you see online are probly made at the same factory. another option is used name brands from ebay

I saw those; shade range 9-13 although it did have a 'TIG' rating mentioned. Maybe for TIG welding the Tirpitz to the Scharnhorst, but for thin stuff like wot I duz I like the lower range capability of the Optrel.
