Yes, I got that bit Richard, I am not clued up enough on gas shielded fc, and, for what I do, its too high tec/spec for me, I'm using basic fluxcore as I am welding 1.5mm -4mm m/s in the open-and its windy down here,which is ok as the wind whips the fumes away nicelyI wasn't referring to gasless fcw.
That's what I would do with it. And he's got a nice shiny 200 amp yellow box just perfect for the job.Honestly, just give it a 3.2 or larger low hyCoulda done the job by now

Came across two interesting articles from Millers and Lincoln which gives recommendations for achieving maximum penetration including using the thinnest size wire you can get away with, CO2 as the shielding gas and pulling/dragging the torch instead of pushing.
