MIG welding other metals.

Hi I have been MIG welding mild steel for a few years now and I pretty much know what I'm doing. However, I am going for a job that involves MIG welding other types of steel which I'm guessing will be stainless and galvanised. So what's the difference between welding mild steel which I can do and welding the other types? Will I pick it up just as fast or am I out of my depth going for the job?

I only welded galvanised once (Before I realised you shouldn't weld it), and it was awful! I can't imagine you'd be asked to do that. I think the normal method is to grind/sand the galv away before welding.

You won't be welding galvanized. The fumes are toxic and it is pretty much impossible to make a decent job of it. If a galv part needs welding the coating has to be ground off so you're left with clean steels, as you'll be used to. Even then, some still remains.

I suppose aluminium is a possibility along with stainless. I don't think you'll have much trouble picking either of them up if you've half decent with a MIG already.
