No, door on the street lamp opened & welder plugged in, seen that in Cyprus!

That is good and fair comment, but the point about the battery potentially gassing Hydrogen is a valid one if it has just come off charge. I have never heard of such an incident but I accept that it is a possibility.

Blew up a car battery despite it being disconnected, covered up on the other side of the car.

So now you have I have mentioned it before when the subject comes up.

Despite half the side missing and most of the electrolyte, it still started the car two more times . . .

I was 18 . . . I needed a hosepipe shower pdq afterwards, as did the car in front of it - there was always a darker blue spot on the tailgate afterwards.

Always removed batteries well away from any location, car, etc I am welding in or near since. Not blown another up.

Heres one of my Mum and Dad. They were 'Motorcyclists' not 'Bikers'. This was setting off from Birmingham to scotland. Hell my folks were cool.
White ankle socks and shiny shoes oh and a saucy grin. Note the modded screen the tiny spoiler thingy.

There are some great cafe racer versions of my bike,. Who knows maybe one day I might do a desert sled version I love that look
but in the meantime happy to potter about on it.
I bought it this year, not what I was looking for but just the ticket. A lovely ride and i can see why a 650 parallel twin was the headbangers bike of choice in the 50's and 60's.
This even has a long stroke engine, tootle about on the torque but give it some wellie and yeah it makes sense and sounds great. Like an old mini it feels fast.
Ukracer easier on a bench? not for me.
Bolt the lugs onto the bike frame then tack the pannier frame one to them and see how it lies. I'll do a quick what I call a 'slutty build' does it get in the way of feet? does it fit nicely? yes does it look good etc etc. First build out of offcuts then copy it using decent material.

When I was welding on my old Land Rover I disconnected the battery terminals and unplugged the alternator,but somehow it still killed the rectifier diodes in the diconnected alternator.
I'll take the alternator off and hide it under the bed next time I'm welding.

Highly unlikely. It was probably more likely damaged during its removal.

I didn't remove the alternator,I just unplugged it.
It worked ok before welding and didn't work after so I assumed it being broken to be caused by welding.It needed a new rectifier.

I'm guessing mid/late 50s he was on his second Golden Flash.
Mum fancied the guy on the Vincent. Dad had been dumped as he would not sell his bike. Older man and a big bike was second choice.
A healthy basis for a relationship.
They managed over 70 years though.
