I'm not convinced it is down to the helmet being faulty, but it's obvious you've got no faith in it and arc-eye isn't pleasant.

Don't forget that some things, notably electronics, get cheaper and better as time goes by.

Cumbriasteve, i didnt mean to cause offense at your ebay helmet. I think 5 years ago they were selling decent stuff, now, the cheap imports are questionable with their quality. but, i didnt mean to upset anyone with my remark. sorry if i did. thanks

Stop worrying, no offence was taken at all.

I am sure as with everything on ebay there is rubbish, the price you pay however often has little to do with it.

Once they realise some people will pay £300 for a helmet I can guarantee some one will make one identical and fully badged up correctly but it will be a complete fake and probably fail as such.

The comments re the ce markings are also very true, I bought some lighting from China, super cheap and fully aware I would have to check the wiring, it came with a nice little ce sticker on it and wired incorrectly, 10 mins and the wiring was sorted and I have a great light for a tenth of the cost, good for someone like me who knows the pitfalls, terrible for the innocent buyer who does not.

But I wouldn't buy one from them because none they sell has pictures of bare ladies on - not only that but not even thunderbolts or skulls either.

You can't get proper arc eye through clear perspex I am told but I shouldn't want to test that and you will not see the pool for sure

I haven't ever used a real high end lid period. You want to see what happens to this sort of kit in my hands

I think all your comments are valid.

I think you do get concerned especially when its to do with your sight. And, yes i agree with you that all items intended for sale in the UK that carry the CE mark are fit for purpose, regardless where they are from, so i should not be negative to any ebay items purchased that are from overseas.

The fact is, yes, i am slightly concerned about my auto darkening helmet being at fault.
I will get another another helmet, just to make me feel more confident than anything else so that i can carry out my small project using the Mig welder.

I have learnt so much from you guys today in this forum thread - i thank you all for helping me - much appreciated !
