Hi Everyone,
First post on what looks like a great forum. I am looking to learn how to MIG weld and have no prior experience at all. I am an engineer so I am technically minded but know ziltch about welding, never even held one before!
I want to learn how to do some small occasional sill / floor repairs on my car.
My brother in law is a fabrication engineer in Aberdeen and has suggested going on a introductory MIG course would be a good start. Can anyone suggest a night school course in Scotland, I am in Dunfermline Fife but willing to travel. Are they any pro's out there that give lessons instead of a course?
Also (excuse me if I have got this wrong or spelling) my brother in law is suggesting I get a "Butters" welder are they any good? Also he has suggested maybe a second hand ESAB? He told me I should go for one with copper windings and not alu as they are much stronger.
Any advice much appreciated.
Cheers
Scott
