So, Need to make a trolly for a mig welder.
The mig is an inverter unti so currently farily portable.
I want it to sit on the top shelf, be mounted properly so it can't moove around.
The mig takes a maximum of a 200mm drum but has a hole in the back panel to alow you to feed wire in if I want to feed it from a 300mm drum.
I can buy the OEM trolley with a 300mm drum holder fitted, The holder is fitted directly behind the welder:
I would rather have the welder at a better working height so would want the top shelf (bottom of welder) to be around 800mm from the floor.
If I mount the spool holder as the one above then I am going to end up with quite a large trolley, at the height I would like it will also be a bit top heavy.
My first thought is to just mount the spool holder under the welder.
This would make it easier to cover the spool as I can just make a box with a removable side panel. It will also keep the weight nearer the center and move some of it downwards plus give me room to mount the gas bottle at the back of the trolly if I wanted.
My main concern with doing it that way is runnig the wire. I will be using aluminium whire which I know is a pain to feed at the best of times.
I am thinking, something along the lines of a bit of metal tube in an arc shape that I can fit with a length of teflon torch liner.
If I mount the spool as far forward to the front of the trolley as I can then the wire can come off the bottom of the drum, have a bit of space in free air then enter the liner at the rear of the trolley before starting to turn and run upwards.
The other option is I mount the spool right at the back of the trolley and take the wire off heading upwards to start before it turns back towards the welder.
Does this sound like it should work or am I going to be creating myself a load of feed issuses?
