MiG welder polarity reverse ?

Bought a small roll of gasless wire to try with mine at first, it was a bit splattery with little penetration, used it in stick mode initially instead then got the hobbyweld cylinder and a regulator and have it running conventional mig now. Didn't even bother faffing about changing leads over I was always going to run with gas.

Well this gets more interesting started welding with gas terrible porosity and spatter, checked voltage at torch, was Negative, changed it to positive and fine. So mine was definitely set up for welding with flux wire but it was terrible, possible bad reel of wire? However that would explain why the seller says no need to swap polarity for gasless because it’s already set for that and considering they don’t supply gas regulator etc etc maybe they assume everyone is going to give its first outing on gasless? Problem is a lot report using it with gas from the start and no problems also lots of reviews with using gasless from the start and happy?

Yep, as I think I replied I used mine with gas, from the start. No problems and a good weld with good penetration etc. I have not tested polarity to be fair but I don't think I would have got the welds like that out of the box!

shows that the brass block of the Euro torch socket is connected by a solid copper bar to the lower front-panel Dinse socket, and that socket is the positive. The original as-shipped setup is therefore for solid wire with gas, and no easy way of swapping that.
