MIG welder advice

Hello, I have a classic ford which needs major welding, I currently have a 100 amp sealey welder (not tested) and was looking at maybe selling this and buying a more powerful unit as I was told that 100 amps was too low
To weld car panels, I have a little bit of experience welding at college a year or so ago and want to give it a try myself, any advice would be much appreciated , also want to know difference between gas less and gas powered welders

Welcome to the forum, you have had some dodgy advice, 100amps will blast holes through the steel before you can blink.

For car panels the lower the better, anything from 15 to 30 amps is the most common used.

Have a good read of the tutorial on this forum..it will give you a good insight to your requirements.

For car bodywork you need to be looking at the minimum amps available as this will be more important, get the lowest you can.

So if I get a bottle/hose fitted upto. My existing welder I believe it goes down to 30 amps that this would be ideal?

Yes 30 amps is about the norm for most hobby machines so will be fine.

Disposable bottles are costly, don't last long and not always easy to control the flow, search around locally to find a gas supplier.

Which Sealey do you have as it maybe a "gas less" only (not the bet for car body work). If you have yet to test the welder then before you rush out and buy a regulator ect then check that it does the basics, 1)feeds wire 2) creates an arc. Both can be checked without the gas connected. Any weld done would be very poor though.

The mig in question is a mighty mig 100xt mk2 turbo

It has a small see through pipe coming out of the rear

You just need a gas connection kit and some gas then it's off you go....as long as it works.
Run some test welds without gas before you do anything else, they'll look awful but at least you'll be able to tell if the wire feed and power settings are working correctly before spending any money.
