MIG Torch brass block connectors

I'm new here but I need to ask a question. I have an Aldi gasless mig welder. I have stripped the torch down to find a suitable female threaded orifice for a co2 connection in the brass block. Looking into this threaded hole I can see that some sort of valve is operated along with the arc switch. This seems to be a standard torch valve block without a gas pipe fitted. However on blowing down the hole it seems to be blocked. Has anyone got experience of this and converted this kind of torch with a supply of gas or is it just blocked up somehow at the factory or is full of debris?
The thread is M5 I think and 4mm push fit pipe will be installed as normal.Has anyone verified the thread size? This is a photo from this site but is the same valve. Would appreciate some feedback Thanks John Tickle

Can't help with direct experience but it should be possible to take the brass block apart as from what you say the plunger for gas is there and so there should be a return spring and seal inside. These would I assume have been installed via the plug on the under side. Note I think you will find there is a grub screw to remove the swan neck. Hi Mike thanks for the reply need to persevere with the dismantling will check threads for Co2 port when I find my thread gauge and investigate the plug and grub screw in the block to see if the Co2 valve is in good order. Looks as though the plug has been peened to stop dismantling "see photo" but I'm willing to get at it somehow.

The 5mm for the thread sound small. Would have thought 1/8 bsp (even though the pipe end is metric)
Photo is not clear enough to see how it's retained but with care should be possible to get apart. Be aware of spring going flying!
One gas feed sorted you will need to swap the polarity of the welding.

that silver fitting is definitely a push fit 4mm pipe fitting 1/8" bsp is too big I`ve tried had some 1/8" nipples far too big. So back to measuring the thread or finding a metric bolt to fit.
I`m assuming 5mm metric fine male push fit cos they keep coming up in mig welding searches have a look at these items on E-Bay very cheap one is identical to photo .Cebora spares listing this fitting at £9 something.

I have made the conversion of an aldi gasless to with gas mig. See my thread,mig welder mods, in the welders forum of this site.

Not to state the obvious but when you blew up this hole, had you pressed the actuator to open it ?

Hi did the obvious gob around the hole pressed the valve blew down both or not properly. I took the wire guide off this time and got a nice free working gas valve.

If that 'valve' isn't playing it might be worth considering a better upgrade (those torches aren't nice anyway...)

Get a cheap euro torch (a used one?) and a solenoid valve - probably get both for under 30quid if you look around.

Chop the plug off the euro torch (unless you want a socket on the machine) and you can hardwire it in as the original.

That'll give you a torch that's much nicer to use and has cheaper and more available consumables and a 'real' gas control system...

Hi I've considered that as I've already bought a Co2 valve regulator and pub bottle might aswell see what I had to start with.

got some one else posting named Mike and got you mixed up in my replies.
To update this other Mike has already converted his Aldi welder to gas and has given me a lot of help to follow this go to Mike's workshop on this site somewhere.
My conversation with him is under Aldi welder.
Sorry not sure how to give you the link.
At the moment I have connected my 4mm pipe with a drilled out gas jet and O-Ring works o.k.
I decided to get a M6 to 4mm fitting anyway but the block measures as a M6 0.75 pitch fine thread and the fittings are only available in 1mm pitch so I hope to convert this somehow to make a better connection than the drilled out gas jet.
